Yesterday Alan and I cleaned several ovens in student houses in Exeter. We have been cleaning these ovens for the same landlord every August for the last five years and he has about 12 houses. He likes to ensure that all the ovens are spotless for the new students moving in and he gives us a schedule with a list of all the properties and what needs to be done in each property. I originally did the whole lot on my own when I first did them and I did all the ovens on one Saturday from 0900 in the morning until 1900 in the evening, a whole lot of hard work. Yesterday we split the jobs into two and off we went. We cleaned most of them leaving one for Alan to clean today.

Student Oven Cleaning Exeter

I've cleaned two 90cm single oven ranges this week in student accommodation in Exeter. Alan cleaned another 90cm range and a single oven and hob in the property next door which also was student accommodation.

This means that in the last week I have cleaned 15 single oven ranges  and extractor /hoods (thirteen in Cardiff in student accommodation there) and in addition to this I've cleaned a single oven, hob and extractor and a double oven and extractor. Not bad for some one who normally is working part time.

In the last week we have become extremely busy so today I have also cleaned  a  90cm single oven range and hood in Bath for an agent who desperately need it cleaning and the guys have had full days.

Student Oven Cleaning Cardiff

I'm currently working in Cardiff cleaning ovens for student accommodation which unusually all have 90cm range cooker in each house. As it has been hot I've been starting very early in the morning and getting three a day done and then finishing at lunch time. It's been so hot but I'm still carrying on, drinking lots of water, as the job has to be done by a set deadline.

Student accommodation cleans seem to be popular at the moment as its the time to get all the accommodation 'spick and span' before the new students arrive next month. I've got some more to do on Saturday in Bristol and the rest of the team are working on student accommodation ovens too.

All Ovens Cleaned and Correct Sir!

We finished all the ovens in the student accommodation with Hugo finishing on the Wednesday and myself and Alan finishing on the Thursday. I had a few ovens to clean on the Thursday and then I had to check the ovens that hadn't been checked to make sure that they had been cleaned properly. So once they had been checked we could go home. This meant we all had at least the Friday off to recover. What happended last year was that nearly all the guys went sick on the Monday and I'm sure it was a case of overdoing it the week before.

This year everyone has been at work today - except me - I've got a stinking cold and I'm at home - maybe I over did it!

We were given a window of two weeks (everything to be cleaned before the new students moved in) in which we could have done them. We could have done them over two weeks with the guys doing 4 a day each, but for me the best way was to get them done in fast time as this meant we weren't in the way of the general cleaners also in the buildings. Which meant in nearly all cases we could get the ovens cleaned in the kitchens before the cleaners cleaned the rest of them and then once they had finished the kitchen wouldn't be touched again until the students moved in.

Student Accommodation Oven Cleaning

We are cleaning 128 ovens this week in a student block. All four of us are working on site and its a tough one. We are trying to get 8 ovens cleaned each per day to finish the job in four days. Yesterday I cleaned 8 and today I've cleaned 10 and I'm aching quite a bit.

The other guys have done similar amounts except for Nigel who seems to have become a super hero in that he cleaned 16 yesterday and 16 today! He started really early and worked late and missed lunch and really went for it.  I've checked them all today and they are all perfectly cleaned, sparkling and bright, with a nice clean smooth feel to them - just as they should be. As we are all allocated the same amount anyone who completes their job in less time can have the rest of the time off; a good motivator. So tomorrow whilst we are struggling to get the rest done Nigel will be resting his tired limbs.

Why oh Why are ALL Student Ovens Dirty?

Now is our busy season cleaning lots of ovens in student accommodation ready for the new influx of students at the end of the Summer. Yes they do tend to be dirty but we usually get lots of jobs from one landlord and this means they are close together in the town. Landlords are getting wise to the fact that even students don't want to move into their accommodation and find a greasy oven with last years burnt chips in it. We sometimes wonder if these ovens ever get cleaned during the student year as generally we are greeted by caked on over cooked pizza on the racks and two inches of grease in the ovens and grill pans. And don't forget those disgusting spills of burnt on egg on the hobs! Before I forget the worst and potentially a fire hazard are greasy extractors; it's great to see these gleaming like new with fresh new filters in them. All we need to do now is to educate students to use a cleaning cloth occasionally through out the year.
