Oven Cleaning Dip Tank Fixed

At our regular weekly meeting last Thursday it became apparent that one of the vans tanks wasn't heating up at all. It meant that we had to rearrange the jobs for the day for that van. The problem was the heating element in the dipping tank fitted to the van was tripping the electrical circuit in the office.

We checked the element and it had completely 'gone' and needed replacing. So on Saturday I removed the tank, fitted a new element and then put it all back together in the pouring rain. It was a bit tricky in parts as I had to get the tank completely out of the van to get leverage on the element to remove it. To do this I had to unbolt the fixing bolts, get the tank out ,then put the new element in and then bolt the tank back into the van. To do this bit needed a bit of effort but I got it all sorted out in the end. So at the end I was soaked through to the skin but it had to be done.

Today we have put the same van into the garage get a wheel bearing fixed. Now the van is fixed and I will use it tomorrow for a full day's work.

All Oven Cleaning Vans Now Serviceable

Over the last week we have had to get two vans serviced and one MOTed and we have also sorted out the problems we were having on two of the vans with the rinsing system. I found a very good local auto electrician who has sorted this out on both vehicles. So hopefully all the problems have gone.

Oven Cleaning in the Snow

Because of the bad snow yesterday we re arranged most of our jobs for the day for all our vans, but then in the afternoon when it had warmed up the snow disappeared and we wish we hadn't moved them as we lost a day's income. Today, even though the weather was worse, we tried to delay the jobs and get to the ones that we could do. So today we did a lot more than we did yesterday. The guys did a great job in getting to the clients even though the conditions were terrible.

Snow Hits Oven Cleaning Van

Today one of our guys couldn't get out of the village he lived in because of the snow. The road wasn't blocked or anything but the silent policemen were too icy and because of this he couldn't drive the van our them. So it was a case of waiting until the afternoon by which time they had thawed and then went off and cleaned a couple of ovens.

After a quick call to Citroen Leasing we have found out that we can buy our oven cleaning van at the end of the lease. This is good news as it is already kitted out with a dipping tank and a rinse system and the mileage on it is below 30,000.

My lease on my Berlingo is running out in the next three months and for the life of me I can't remember if I have to give it back or I can keep it. There are two different types of lease you can get when you lease a van and on one you must give it back and the on the other you can negiotate a price and keep it. I've got a feeling that mine is on the one where I've got to give it back. It's not good news if I've got to give it back as I've got to fit out a new van. I know it's just a case of transfering the kit from one van to the other but it still is an inconvience.

I need to find out soon so that I can order a new van, so another job on my list for this week.

Ideally the best way to buy a van is either outright or on HP where you end up owning the van outright eventually.

Oven Cleaning Vans Getting Through the Weather

Yesterday was very cold still and I had to go out and help one of the guys with a problem on their van. It took me a couple of minutes to do the job but it took me nearly an hour and a half to get there and it was just on the other side of Bristol not that far from our office.

The problem was the slip road from the M4 to the M32 was closed as it was 'iced up' and for the same reason the M32 was closed northbound as the slip round going from the M32 onto the M4 was also closed. So the whole junction on the east bound side was closed. I had to drive to the next junction on the M4 and then double back to get onto the M32 to then drive two junctions down.

After listening to Jeremy Vine Radio Show today it looks like icy problems on slip roads can cause disastrous accidents, with an accident on the slip road near Reading causing more than one death where people who tried to help died. So really after cursing the Highways Agency yesterday today I can see that they prevented a serious accident by there actions and have to applauded for that. Everything was very well organised with big flashing signs and lots of other warning signs.

New Year Weather Conditions affect Oven Cleaning Operation

Last night we had a call from one of our oven cleaning operatives to say that he had lost his key for his van and another call from another one to say that the water pump inside the van, we use to power our rinsing system, had burst! The temperature in the van had dropped to minus zero temperatures over the last few days because of the cold and as the van hadn't been used for a couple of weeks there was no residue ambient temperature, and the water in the pump had frozen solid.

So a right pair especially as we had we are really busy today.

Luckily we had a spare set of keys for the van - but now we've got to get a spare one cut which will be tricky as we are going to have to get the key to a key cutter and the operative is busy. So from this we need to keep two sets of keys as back up and not the one we normally keep; so a first thing to put on my to do list.

For the pump problem we switched vans this morning so that I now have the one with the broken pump and I will get it replaced over the new few days. So it was lucky we had a spare van. I've told the other two operatives to lag their pumps to make sure they don't freeze.

Oven Cleaning Vans Back To Full Strength

I've picked up our 2005 Ford Transit Connect today; it's had a full engine replacement and with this the corresponding price to go with it. I am now going to use it as my van and as it needs running in I'm going to drive it steadily. The 2006 Citroenn Berlingo has been fitted out and Alan is using it. So this means that we are up to full strength . We are just about to start advertising for a new operative so when this person starts I will need the other Transit Connect fixed.

In all I've learnt a lot about fleet management from this whole episode and hopefully I can make sure we are not put in this position again.

Oven Cleaning Van Trouble

We have five vans for our business though one of them isn't fitted out as yet with a dipping tank and hasn't got our OvenGleam branding on. We have:

• A 2004 Transit Connect 1.9 Diesel
• A 2005 Transit Connect 1.9 Diesel
• A 2006 Daihatsu Extol 1.3 Petrol
• A 2006 Daishatsu Extol 1.3 Diesel
• A 2006 Citroen Berlingo 1.9 Diesel

They've all got their individual merits with the Daihatsu being good around town and the Transit Connect just great to drive. The Berlingo was a van I use in another business which I no longer have, and as it's not a turbo model it takes a while to get it going. We been operating with three vans booked up everyday and with me in the fourth giving cover so that we can book in last minute cleans and I've also been cleaning alot of AGAs.

We've been on holiday in the last week - we were in France and the weather was fab so we've got a bit of a suntan. But whilst we were away someone broke the windscreen on the Berlingo and the 2005 Transit Connect Engine blew up!  We got the windscreen replaced on the Berlingo today.

Our 2004 Transit Connect has been off the road for the last two months - it's a long story but basically the oil filter came undone and the van suddenly lost oil and siezed - we've been looking to take action against the garage that serviced it (mot and service for £100!). So at this moment we have only two vans operating. So now its all go to get the Berlingo fitted out as soon as possible; we're going to get it done on Monday so this will mean minimal disruption to the clients we've already got booked in.

We are going to trade in one of the Transit Connects for a new van and as I saw the the new Renault Kangoo van in France whilst there it's top of my list ; it looked a lot different from the current Kangoo looking more beefy and muscular and it will certainly look great when sign written with our logos. We are going to get the other Transit Connect fixed.
