Getting the AGA cooker ready for Christmas

I've been to Oxfordshire today to clean a 4 oven AGA cooker; so it was a bit of a drive (an hour and a half) to get there. I listened to a couple of business business seminars tapes by Chris Cardell whilst driving there and as the lady of the house wasn’t there when I got there, she thought the 11.30 appointment was at 13.30, I had another 45 minutes further listening and van cleaning until she turned up to let me in. So in the end I was Chris Cardelled out!

 

It then took me three hours to clean the AGA. It was a reconditioned one so even though it was one of the original ‘standard’ models it had good enamel. So the final result was a sparkling clean AGA that looked like new.

 

 It's quite a way to go to clean just one AGA but we fitted it in so that I could clean it and then carry out some work in the office when I got back. I did the same yesterday when I drove to Sherbourne to clean a 4 oven there again an hour and half each way of Chris Cardell. For me cleaning AGAs is very satisfying so I don’t mind at all. So two AGA cookers left set ready, and looking fabulous, for Christmas.

 

Overall our oven cleaning business is doing well and we have been very busy and at the moment we are booking in new appointments ten days in advance, which is good for us. This is great news and is the start of our run up to Christmas when we get very busy. Really it is going to fly by. Christmas is a busy time for us as we get a rush where people want their ovens, ranges and AGA cookers and of course their hobs and extractors shiny and fresh for both visitors and the family. No one wants their mother-in-law, future in-laws, family and friends  to see their ovens or cookers in a filthy state. They want them looking lovely. It really gives a good impression if they look great.

Oven Cleaning at Christmas Time

Even though we aren't in November yet and the weather is wonderful and warm, a real Indian Summer, it's time to start about thinking about Christmas and a clean oven, range cooker, or AGA cooker. Do you really want to cook your Christmas meals in your oven with it being dirty? Do you really want people who are visiting (especially the Mother-In-Law) seeing the state of your oven? Really you want it to be clean so that you can see the food cooking through the door and cook your meals without the kitchen filling with smoke. So here is a reminder we get booked up for Christmas very quickly and with November being next week please think about getting your oven, range cooker, AGA cooker, extractor or hood, and microwave booked in with us, sooner rather than later, so you can be sure it will be cleaned before the festivities.

John Lewis BBQ and AGA Cooker Cleaning Day

Today I've cleaned a BBQ for John Lewis in Swindon and then I went and cleaned an AGA cooker in Calne both of which are in Wiltshire.

The BBQ was something that John Lewis wanted cleaning so that they could re-sell it. It had been used by a customer but taken back to John Lewis. At the John Lewis Home store in the Outlet centre in Swindon they sell items that have been returned or have been damaged at reduced prices. The BBQ, a Weber Genesis,  (although if you click on the last link it wasn't this actual model it was the cheaper black one see Black Weber Genesis) was covered in grease and looked unsightly. After a couple of hours cleaning though it was sparkling and shiny as new. Apparently these BBQs sell for £599 (or more) new so it was worth John Lewis getting it cleaned professionally by us.

The AGA cooker was a four oven one (one of the first deluxe 4 oven AGAs with a continuous towel rail at the front) and was the worst one I have ever seen, I don't think it had ever been cleaned. Ovens three and four were particulary dirty (we clean the insides of these on 4 oven AGA cookers) It took me three and half hours of hard graft to get it looking good. Phew one big AGA clean

Oven Cleaning in Difficult Conditions

We get to clean ovens in strange locations, for example a common one is in the garage whilst the kitchen is being refitted; the customer wants it clean to go back into their new kitchen. I've also cleaned an oven in the hall as that was where it was, again, whilst the kitchen was having a refit. I've also cleaned a Rayburn Royal (it just looked fanstastic when it was finished as it was a stunning pillar box red), a Lacanche range cooker, and several standard double ovens before they were sold on Ebay.

We often get gallery kitchens where you can just about get the door down on a single oven. That is the space between the kitchen cabinets on one side of the kitchen and the other side is just a bit bigger than the length of the door. It means that to clean the oven becomes pretty difficult too as if the door doesn't come off then it's a case of cleaning the oven from the side.

Also a lot of the time customers will have their washing machine on whilst we are cleaning the oven which means that you are working next to a heat source that makes cleaning that much hotter.

We now clean Fridges and Dishwashers

We are now offering a fridge cleaning service to complement our oven cleaning service. For this our process is:

1. We use high-specification steam-cleaner to ensure that the fridge is cleaned thoroughly first and using the steam cleaner also allows us to do a quick defrost.
2. So we sanitise the whole fridge and/or freezer with the steam cleaner including all interior compartments and shelves interior door panels and rubber seals.
3. We also sanitise the outside of the fridge including the door handles.
4. If your fridge is full of food then we can if required, remove food and store in our cool boxes whilst work is being carried out, and put them back afterwards.
5. All our guys have been on a food handling course and have the certificate.

We are also cleaning dishwashers. For dishwashers our process is:

1. Again using the steam cleaner we clean the interior of the dishwasher including the seals on the door, to sanitise it.
2. We ensure that all food debris is removed.

Spring Cleaning
